Since the COVID-19 outbreak started in China at the end of last year, the virus has spread throughout the world and affected regions in different ways. Due to the disparity in (active) cases between the US and the rest of the world, the inclusion of this country distorts maps showing the world’s current hotbeds of COVID-19. 

When excluded, we can see new hotbeds emerging in South America, Africa and Asia. Over the last week, the number of active cases in Africa and Latin America has grown 25%.
